Red Bull crowned world constructors’ champion, a first since 2013
Red Bull secures its fifth constructor's championship title, after eight years of drought marked by Mercedes' dominance.
It was Max Verstappen and Sergio Pérez’s wish, and now it’s done: Red Bull can celebrate its fifth World Constructors’ Championship title in Austin. The first since 2013, the year of the last crown for the Austrian team. Since then, they have endured a long dry spell, marked by Mercedes’ eight titles.
It was only a matter of time before finding out when Red Bull would clinch their title, as the outcome of the constructors’ championship has lacked suspense for several races now. Thanks to Max Verstappen’s victory and Sergio Pérez’s fourth position – as well as Carlos Sainz’s retirement in the first lap – the celebration will finally take place in Austin for the Milton Keynes team. Barely two weeks after Max Verstappen’s double world champion title in Suzuka.
Before the supremacy of Mercedes, Red Bull had itself dominated the championship with four consecutive titles won between 2010 and 2013, with its controversial duo Sebastian Vettel – Mark Webber, the German being crowned four-time world champion at that time.
