Carlos Sainz at the wheel of the legendary Ferrari 412P at Fiorano
Spanish driver Carlos Sainz had the opportunity to test the Ferrari 412P on the official test track in Fiorano, Italy, bringing back to life the car that finished third in the 1967 Daytona 24 Hours.

It is with a childlike expression that Carlos Sainz took the wheel of a historic car, the Ferrari 412P, at the Fiorano circuit in Emilia-Romagna. This same car that had finished third at the 1967 Daytona 24-hour race and has been restored by the Ferrari Classiche department. 55 years later – the Spanish driver’s Formula 1 number, a coincidence? – the Madrid-born driver got into this car that was the protagonist of the legendary finale at Daytona, where three Ferraris crossed the finish line on Ford’s territory. A triple podium assured for the Italian team, much to the chagrin of the Americans.
The 420-horsepower car in which Carlos Sainz was able to sit was that of Pedro Rodríguez and Jean Guichet, who crossed the line in third position, as mentioned above. The duo finished behind Lorenzo Bandini and Chris Amon, who secured victory for Ferrari in 1967 with car number 23, and Mike Parkes and Ludovico Scarfiotti, who finished second with car number 24.
“It was very exciting. I had never driven a prototype before and being in a model from that era was something completely different from any car I had been in before. Only Ferrari allows you to experience something of this caliber…,” said the Madrilene after getting out of the car, thanking his team for this great moment of emotions. However, care must be taken not to damage it, as the Ferrari 412P is estimated to be worth around 20 million euros.”
Since a little bit of automotive history never hurts, it is worth mentioning that this car was entered by the North American division of Ferrari under the colors of NART (North American Racing Team), owned by the Ferrari importer for North America, Luigi Chinetti. In order to further enhance the impact of the triple win that the team was about to achieve at the 1967 Daytona 24 Hours, it was decided (via a direct telephone line from Maranello) that the three cars would regroup in the final laps to cross the finish line in formation. An image that would travel around the world and remain in the annals, until this day.
It’s a match 🔥😍
