This season, the regulations require teams to give young drivers the opportunity to participate in two free practice sessions throughout the year. Haas is one of the teams that has not yet given one of its seats to a young driver. During the first free practice session in Monza, Antonio Giovinazzi did take the wheel of the VF-22, but the Italian driver is not considered a rookie.

A potential candidate for a starting position in the American team following Nikita Mazepin’s departure at the beginning of the season, Pietro Fittipaldi will have the opportunity to step into the cockpit of the car currently occupying eighth place in the constructors’ championship. As a reserve driver for the team led by Günther Steiner, the grandson of Brazilian double world champion Emerson Fittipaldi will take part in the first practice sessions of the Mexican and Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. Kevin Magnussen will give way to Fittipaldi in Mexico, and Mick Schumacher will do the same at the Yas Marina circuit.

The Brazilian already knows the 2022 race car as he participated in the pre-season tests in Bahrain last March. He also has two starts in Formula 1 Grand Prix in his career, as he replaced Romain Grosjean at the end of 2020 following the terrible accident the French driver had suffered in Sakhir.
