Singapore Grand Prix – Free Practice 3: Leclerc the fastest
It was after a session disrupted by the rain that Charles Leclerc went on to set the fastest time of Free Practice 3.

As the countdown for this final practice session began, the drivers were unable to hit the track. Indeed, a tropical downpour had hit the Singapore circuit. The amount of water on the track made it impossible to use. The FIA therefore decided to close the pit lane exit.
After spending 30 minutes in their garages, the drivers were allowed to take to the track at 6:30 pm local time. The first car to take the track was Pierre Gasly’s AlphaTauri. The French driver went out with wet tires. The winner of the 2020 Italian Grand Prix was followed by his garage neighbor, Yuki Tsunoda.
With 20 minutes of the session remaining, Max Verstappen was the first driver to hit the track with intermediate tires instead of rain tires. Charles Leclerc then decided to imitate his championship rival’s strategy. The leader of the drivers’ standings was 1.7 seconds faster than Carlos Sainz’s Ferrari with his green-striped tires.
Max Verstappen and Charles Leclerc were taking turns exchanging the best laps on the track at the end of the session. It was the Monegasque who came out of this duel as the winner with a time of 1’57’782, 5 tenths faster than the Dutchman’s Red Bull and 1 second quicker than his teammate, Carlos Sainz.
Good session also for the Alpine team. Fernando Alonso finished these FP3 in 4th position and Esteban Ocon managed to secure the 7th place. The French team seems to confirm its status as the best of the rest on the Singapore street circuit.
