After his impressive debut in Formula 1 at the Italian Grand Prix in Monza, it seems that everyone is vying for Nyck de Vries. The young Dutch driver, who is set to test with Alpine in Budapest, met with Helmut Marko in Austria, suggesting a possible connection with AlphaTauri. He confirmed this information over the weekend on the Dutch television show Humberto op Zaterdag. « As the media noticed yesterday, I went to Austria to meet with Helmut Marko. These are the facts. »

If Nyck de Vries were to join AlphaTauri, he would naturally take Pierre Gasly’s place, leaving the door open for Gasly to move to Alpine and form a 100% French team alongside Esteban Ocon.

Almost spoiled for choice for Nyck de Vries

But the Formula E champion is also mentioned at Williams, where he made a stunning debut a week ago, replacing Alexander Albon. The Dutchman is rumored to be in the running to replace Nicholas Latifi, but the name Logan Sargeant, an F2 driver, is also circulating within the British team. The latter should drive the FW44 during the first free practice session in Austin, in October. But the American will first have to finish at least fifth in the F1 championship if he wants to obtain a Super License and race in F1 next year…

In case of Sargeant’s failure, Williams would therefore turn to Nyck de Vries. It seems that the new darling of F1 would have plenty of options for next season, right? However, that’s not what the main person involved thinks. “I’m not really sure if I am in a luxurious position to be able to choose,” he told Dutch journalists.

« It’s largely out of my control. I’ve been in negotiations with Williams for a while now, and I was also able to make my debut with them last weekend. It would be a logical step. I’ve been in contact with Alpine since July, and I will be testing for them in Budapest next week. I will be flying there on Monday », he specified.

Nyck de Vries will not play the spoiled one.

Nyck de Vries doesn’t plan on being difficult and will seize the opportunity of the seat that is offered to him, he suggested on the Humberto op Zaterdag show. Wherever I can secure a permanent seat, I would be very happy. We have to see how things evolve in the coming days and weeks. Like I said, it’s not entirely under my control.

Meanwhile, the reserve driver for Mercedes is focusing on his opportunities for next year and doesn’t plan on letting Monza get to his head. On Monday afternoon, I quickly came back to reality. I am now focused on the future. But all the messages and congratulations I received, it was very special for me. It’s nice to receive support from everyone, concluded Nyck de Vries.
