Formula 2 – Victory for Lawson, Pourchaire sixth
Liam Lawson was head and shoulders above the rest today at the Spa circuit. The New Zealander emerged victorious in front of Jack Doohan and Ralph Boschung, who started from pole position. Théo Pourchaire finished sixth.

During the warm-up lap, Jehan Daruvla broke down with his Prema. Initially in second place, the Indian did not participate in the sprint race.
This also benefits Théo Pourchaire, who temporarily takes second place. The start doesn’t go well for the Frenchman: he is overtaken at the first turn by Liam Lawson, and then by Richard Verschoor and Jack Doohan on the Kemmel straight.
In the next lap, Liam Lawson takes the lead of the race, benefiting from today’s pole position holder, Ralph Boschung.
At the end of the eleventh lap, Logan Sargeant loses control of his Carlin and crashes into the wall at the exit of the double left of Pouhon. The Safety Car is deployed. Drugovich, Hauger (and others) take advantage of this to change to soft tires. They come out in twelfth and thirteenth place.
Once the Safety Car came in, there were four laps left before the end of the sprint. Lawson took off on the restart, pulling away from the pack just after Blanchimont.
Lawson wins this sprint race (the third of the season). He finishes ahead of Jack Doohan. Ralph Boschung, in third place, secures a podium on his return to Formula 2.
Felipe Drugovich and his MP Motorsport team executed a great strategy. The championship leader climbed up to fourth position, even coming within a whisker of the podium! However, he was under investigation for gaining a position by cutting the Malmedy chicane.
Théo Pourchaire, on the other hand, finished in sixth position … he who had a virtual second place at the start, is once again losing points to Drugovich in terms of the championship.
See you tomorrow for the main race!
