Alfa Romeo extends with Sauber until 2023
Alpha Romeo extends its partnership with Sauber for the 2023 season, announced director Jean-Philippe Imparato last Friday.

After a long-term contract following the 2018 season and the return of the Alfa Romeo name to Formula 1 the following season, the team has decided to renew its trust with Sauber for the 2023 season. This was announced officially by Alfa Romeo’s director, Jean-Philippe Imparato, during a press interview last Friday.
“Every year in July, we assess the situation. If in the future we realize that we are more interested or if we do not see any returns on our investments, then we will see what we will do,” said the team’s director to Reuters journalists.
During an interview with Autosport, he also stated that he believed he had the best possible return on investment on Earth before adding further details on the economic model they are based on.
« With our colleagues from Sauber, we have invented a new economic model in which there is dual governance between us. » added Imparato regarding the economy of the team and Sauber.
Sauber was also able to confirm the extension of the contract as part of the multi-year commitment already signed.
« Sauber confirms that the agreement with Alfa Romeo has been confirmed for 2023, as specified in our multi-year contract signed between the two companies. The extension was just a formality following the evaluation of the return on investment and the team’s good results.
It must be said that since the resumption of the season, the Alfa Romeo team manages to collect points and is currently ranked in sixth place among constructors. A great achievement, according to the director’s statements, who seems to want a return on investment above all else. These performances can satisfy him and his team, and can likely lead to contract renewals between the two parties.
However, rumors about a possible takeover of Sauber by Audi have been making noise lately. Audi seems to want to join the starting grid, but Imparato and his team don’t seem concerned with that.
