Seventh victory of the season in twelve races: Max Verstappen is breaking records. The Dutch driver comfortably won in France, ahead of the two Mercedes after Charles Leclerc’s off-track incident. Twenty-five points gained on his closest rival that put a smile on the Red Bull driver’s face.

“We had a very good pace from the start. I tried to put pressure on Charles [Leclerc]. But here with these temperatures, the tires were overheating quickly, so I never had the chance to try something. We tried to stay calm, to stay close. From there, you never know how a race will evolve, unfortunately for Charles, and I hope he’s doing well,” explains Verstappen.

After that, I did my race, keeping an eye on my tires which were overheating a lot, and I couldn’t make any more stops because the pit lane is very long here. I always try to score as many points as possible, sometimes you have to know how to stay calm and wait until the end of the race. There are still many races to come. Today was a good day, we still have some work to do on one lap, so we will continue to work,” the Dutchman continues.

Verstappen will want to continue his momentum next weekend in Hungary, on a track where he suffered a lot last year after being hit by Bottas right from the first corner.
