A 100th Grand Prix resonating like a victory for Esteban Ocon
Ocon achieved his best result of the season during his 100th Grand Prix in Austria.
During his 100th Formula 1 race, Esteban Ocon achieved his best result of the season. Starting in 6th position, the Frenchman quickly gained a few places. After his pit stop, he rejoined the track in traffic but swiftly overtook his competitors. Climbing up to 4th place, he unfortunately lost his position, first to Lewis Hamilton, then to George Russell. He eventually finished 5th, his best result of the season.
Esteban Ocon reflects on this “great” weekend: « What a day, what a weekend! It was amazing. I believe we truly maximized our pace today when it really mattered. This is an excellent way to conclude my 100th Formula 1 Grand Prix. We had some good battles on the track today, but in the end, George [Russell] was too fast and fifth place was the best result we could achieve. »
This result allows the French driver to climb up to 8th in the championship standings, and these valuable points will greatly help Alpine to catch up with McLaren in the constructors’ championship: « We are going home with very good points, while progressing to 8th place in the Drivers’ Championship and catching up with McLaren in the Constructors’ Championship. »
« As a team, we are heading in the right direction and we are on a good momentum before going to Paul Ricard, one of the home races for the team, and obviously mine as well. It should be an incredible weekend and I can’t wait to be in front of our fans in two weeks. » concluded the Frenchman.
