The update on the championships after the British Grand Prix
After an eventful British Grand Prix, let's take a look at the standings in the World Championship.

Driver ranking: Perez comes out on top
In the midst of the chaos wreaked on the track, Sergio Perez is the driver from the top 3 who came out best, as he walks away with 18 points, compared to 6 for Verstappen and 12 for Leclerc. Verstappen’s lead is thus reduced to 34 points over Perez and 43 over Leclerc, still a comfortable lead, but Silverstone has shown once again that nothing is set in stone and the slightest issue can be costly. Nevertheless, the Dutchman can thank the strategists at Ferrari, as Leclerc should have left Silverstone with the 25 points.
Behind this top three, the new Formula 1 winner Carlos Sainz takes 4th place ahead of George Russell, who suffered a retirement in the first lap. The underperformance of Leclerc caused by Ferrari’s issues has allowed the Spaniard to come back to just 11 points from the Monégasque, and therefore 54 points behind Verstappen, still a long way to go, but with only half the season over, anything is possible.
Further down in the standings, Alonso’s good result allows him to catch up to his teammate Esteban Ocon by 7 points, and widen the gap with Magnussen behind. We have 5 drivers separated by only 4 points from Magnussen to Tsunoda. Mick Schumacher scores his first points in F1 and sits in 16th place.

Constructor Ranking: McLaren in danger
No major changes in this ranking. Ferrari is gaining some ground on Red Bull while widening the gap with Mercedes. The real battle is happening for the 4th place between McLaren and Alpine. Alonso’s good result brings the Dieppe team to just 2 points behind the 4th place and McLaren’s recent difficulties could give Alpine the opportunity to surpass them.
Behind, Haas and Aston Martin are taking advantage of AlphaTauri’s major difficulties to get closer to the Italian team. Haas is now only 7 points behind the 7th place, with Aston Martin close behind with just a 2-point gap.

The next Grand Prix in Austria will be the perfect opportunity for Red Bull to bounce back even stronger on their home turf. Ferrari needs to do something, and quickly, to address its internal issues if they want to stay in the fight.
