8 out of the last 10 British Grand Prix have been won by Mercedes. Apart from 2018 and 2020, all the other races at Silverstone have been dominated by Lewis Hamilton since 2013. However, 2022 is not a season like any other for Mercedes, as they are facing significant challenges with their cars. To assist the Silver Arrows in their fight to return to the top, improvements have been made at Silverstone.

These recent races give George Russell the motivation, the desire, and above all, the hope to go after a victory on his home turf. Mercedes has never finished higher than 3rd this season, and no other circuit would be more fitting than Silverstone for the two drivers. For Russell, there is only one objective: victory. He declared, “It would be so important for me, I want my first podium at Silverstone to be on the top step, that’s what I’m aiming for this weekend.”

« I’m not saying that I will give up if I am 2nd or 3rd on the last lap, but Silverstone holds such a special place in my heart; it’s where I won my very first victory (in 2017 in GP3, editor’s note), it was my first race, and victory! It’s here that I did my first Formula 1 tests. Plus, it’s simply my home Grand Prix, I can’t wait to go there, and I will give absolutely everything I have to win.

Mercedes has only won 5 podiums this season. Both Lewis Hamilton and George Russell have a desire for this victory, but it probably won’t be easy to achieve. The W13 still suffers from a lot of instabilities and bounces, but the improvements made, as well as the resurfacing of the track, can help the German team to win.
