Alpine has Mercedes in its sights
Alpine has caught up with McLaren in the race for fourth place. The British team now has Mercedes as its target, but the A522 is still too far ahead.

Alpine managed to score points twice in the last two Grand Prix races, giving good hopes for the French team. Although they are not yet ahead of McLaren in the standings, Esteban Ocon is already focusing on his next target: Mercedes. However, the objective seems out of reach for now. Despite the Frenchman finishing ahead of Russell in qualifying, both Mercedes cars finished ahead of the Alpines.
Esteban Ocon remains convinced that his team can challenge the silver arrows in the future, but not at the moment. We’re not there yet, I was overtaken by the two Mercedes in Montreal, so there is still a long way to go… But yes, it’s our goal. They are next on the list.
In this midfield battle, Alpine intends to get a head start with bold improvements made at Silverstone, which are expected to be the biggest of the season. Ocon adds on this subject: “We have some pretty significant upgrades coming for Silverstone, it should be a good step forward for us. So yes, big hopes. This week is going to be intense, starting Tuesday with the simulator, so a lot of work ahead. We hope we can be fast, as the car is in good shape.”
« It’s really encouraging, and the team is moving forward quickly to have the improvements as soon as possible. These improvements are working, we are heading in the right direction. I think that since the beginning of the year, we are the team that has made the most progress. So yes, we can be satisfied.

Alpine is only 4 points away from McLaren, but remains 127 points behind Mercedes. It’s difficult to think that the French team could pose a threat to the German team.
