Aston Martin reaffirms its desire to keep Vettel
Aston Martin continues to demonstrate its desire to keep Sebastian Vettel in its ranks for the coming years. And for good reason, the German seems to be rediscovering a very good level after a more difficult start to the season.

During the first two races of the season, Nico Hülkenberg replaced a Covid-19-infected Sebastian Vettel. Upon his return to Melbourne, the four-time world champion seemed completely elsewhere, leading some to already push him towards retirement at the end of the year.
But since then, Vettel has scored three points finishes, including a splendid sixth place in the streets of Baku. The positive momentum thus leads us to believe that the German could continue in Formula 1 next year.
It is in any case the wish of his team, which, through its director Mike Krack, had already expressed its desire to continue with the former Ferrari driver a few weeks ago. A desire that Krack demonstrates once again after the Canadian Grand Prix.
« We have always been clear, if he wants to continue, we would like him to stay for a long time, yes. We are discussing. We have a very, very good relationship, and we don’t have to set deadlines for each other. Obviously, at some point if we drag this out too long, we will also have problems, and he is aware of that. But we have very trustworthy discussions. From that point of view, everything is fine. »
If Vettel scored points in two consecutive Grand Prix, in Monaco and in Baku, the AMR22 is still not performing as expected. It’s also something that will weigh on the balance, according to Krack. « For us, we have always said that we wanted to improve the car, and I think Barcelona was the first step. I would like to show him another step, and then we can talk, maybe his desire will be a little bigger. »
Asked about his intuition on the matter, Krack prefers to remain cautious. « You shouldn’t talk about intuition, you might be disappointed! No, no, we’re analyzing what we’ve done here [in Montreal], we’re working hard for Silverstone, and then we’ll see how things go, and then we’ll talk. »
Sebastian Vettel’s contract ends at the end of the season. For now, the situation is unclear as to whether the four-time world champion will continue his British adventure or if he will retire.
