McLaren will no longer bring major improvements to the MCL36 this season
McLaren has decided to no longer bring major improvements to its MCL36. According to Andreas Seidl, the car already has strong potential that needs to be extracted.

The McLaren MCL36 is certainly the car whose performance level is the hardest to judge. And for good reason: the Woking team was able to completely miss its first Grand Prix in Bahrain (zero points), then make it to the podium in Imola (Norris 3rd), before failing to perform in the race in Miami and Canada this weekend. Just to name a few.
However, McLaren currently holds the fourth place in the constructor’s standings, but the performance of the legendary team is severely lacking consistency. Lando Norris and Daniel Ricciardo suffer depending on the characteristics of the circuits they face, and McLaren still does not understand what is missing from their car to be competitive on all tracks.
But for Andreas Seidl, the team’s director, the potential is there and the success of the British team will not rely on major improvements to the MCL36.
« The main thing for now is still to try to unlock more performance from the package we have, the German explains to The Race. « And then, we have to see what other small changes will come to the car throughout the season.
With the implementation of the budget cap this season, McLaren also has to count its expenses and had to pull the handbrake in terms of future developments this year. Nevertheless, the Woking team is currently the only one outside of the top three teams (Ferrari, Red Bull, Mercedes) to have stepped on the podium this season. Proof that the MCL36 still holds a certain level of performance to unleash.
