Pérez frustrated by his second mechanical failure of the season
Sergio Pérez abandoned for the second time this season during the Canadian Grand Prix. After a failed qualifying session the day before, the Mexican wants to forget this weekend as soon as possible.

Before the Canadian Grand Prix, Sergio Pérez had three consecutive top 2 finishes, including his victory at the Monaco Grand Prix. However, this weekend in Montreal, the Mexican driver encountered more difficulties, some of which were his own fault while others were not.
Because indeed, Sergio Pérez’s weekend took a turn for the worse on Saturday during the qualifying session. In Q2, the driver with number 11 made a mistake at turn 3 in rainy conditions and saw his session end there. Therefore, he started 13th on Sunday.
And barely has he had time to start, he already has to stop. In lap 8, his car experiences a gearbox issue, and the Mexican driver abandons for the second time this season. “It’s a weekend to forget,” Pérez declares after his premature race finish.
The Red Bull driver believes that a strong comeback was possible. It could have been a race in which I would have made my way through the pack, so it’s really a shame. I felt that there was a lot of potential in my race to climb many positions and score some good points.
After Ferrari for a few races, it is now Red Bull’s turn to be struck again by a mechanical problem. Even though he remains second in the championship, Pérez insists on reliability. « We have to be perfect in terms of reliability because getting zero points when you’re fighting for the championship is very painful and costly. You enter a new set of regulations and there will always be new problems to solve. Today it hurts a lot, it’s a weekend to forget for me, so I want to forget what happened today and focus on Silverstone. »
Now relegated to 46 points behind his teammate Max Verstappen, Sergio Pérez still remains ahead of Charles Leclerc in the championship.
