Canadian Grand Prix – Race perspectives
After two days with unpredictable weather, the Canadian Grand Prix will take place under a beautiful sunshine. With this unprecedented starting grid, what can we expect for the race?

Fernando Alonso created a sensation by achieving an unprecedented second place behind the wheel of his Alpine. His experience spoke for itself, but also his exceptional skills in wet conditions.
This is the first time since 2012 that he occupies such a position on a starting grid. When the lights go out, he will do his best to maintain this great position, if not better. However, over the course of a race, his car will struggle to even maintain a podium position.
The royal path for Verstappen?
The reigning world champion didn’t ask for so much. The penalties for Charles Leclerc pushed him back to 19th place. And Sergio Perez, who crashed his car in Q2, couldn’t do better than the 13th time.
There is only Carlos Sainz who can worry him by starting third. However, the Spanish driver will have to quickly get rid of his compatriot and raise his level of performance in order to hope to disturb Max Verstappen.
Unless there is a twist, the Dutch driver should be able to easily increase his lead in the championship.
The revenge of Haas and Mercedes
Losing momentum in recent races, the Haas drivers managed to take advantage of wet conditions to qualify 5th and 6th, with Magnussen ahead of Schumacher.
They are therefore in a good position to hope to gather valuable points. With the midfield being highly competitive again this year, every opportunity must be seized without error.
On the Mercedes side, Hamilton relied on his experience and can confidently hope for a podium finish. His impressive fourth place in qualifying should enable him to contend at the front throughout the race.
George Russell tried a gamble on his last lap of Q3 that didn’t pay off, but his car is in a favorable position to achieve much better. He will have to drive aggressively to stay close to his teammate.
