Perez says he is ready to follow team instructions if Red Bull asks him
Sergio Perez has reaffirmed his confidence in his team Red Bull. If asked to favor Verstappen, he will comply even though his dream remains to be world champion at the end of the season.

Sergio Perez is having a stellar start to the season. The Mexican driver triumphed in Monaco and, more importantly, significantly closed the gap that existed between him and Max Verstappen compared to last year. With just a 21-point deficit to the Dutchman, Perez has broken free from the perpetual number 2 role that Red Bull’s second drivers had been confined to for years.
But in Barcelona, the Red Bull driver was asked on the radio to let his teammate pass, even though a potential victory was within his reach. Frustrated at the time, the Mexican announces that he is ready to do it again because he maintains 100% confidence in his team.
(I) I had a good conversation with the team. If they told me to do it, I would do what they ask. I don’t see why it wouldn’t make sense,” explains the Mexican to the Canadian media La Presse.
Sergio Perez doesn’t hesitate to admire Max Verstappen, a very talented driver capable of delivering excellent races and excellent results, with whom he maintains a good relationship and a good level of respect for each other. But the former Racing Point driver is also not ready to settle for a number 2 role, as his dream remains to become a world champion one day.
Goal: World champion for Perez
« I think I drive at an extremely high level,” Perez assures. « Being able to maintain this level every week and throughout the season is what will open the door to fight for the championship. To be in the race, to think about the championship, and the fact that every point counts, is a great challenge and a huge opportunity for my career.
The Mexican does not hide his ambition, as at 32 years old, he has the best car of his career in his hands.
« If I were here thinking that I want to finish second, I should rather stay at home. […] I am here because I want to win and I believe I can achieve it. Having this motivation is what drives me. That’s why I’m here. »
To hope to win the title, Perez will have to show competitiveness as early as this Sunday in Montreal.
