In this season of technical revolution, reliability is one of the main issues. If Red Bull at the beginning of the season and now Ferrari are plagued by numerous mechanical problems, Mercedes has the most reliable car on the grid. It’s simple, in eight Grand Prix races, the W13 has never had to retire.

A reliability that allows the Silver Arrows to regain positions when Red Bulls or Ferraris encounter mechanical issues. Because without it, the 2022 German team’s car is not capable of contending for podium finishes in a fair manner, as both leading teams have such an advantage over the rest of the field, including Toto Wolff’s team.

George Russell, who is having a great start to the season with eight top 5 finishes in as many races, believes that a championship is first won by scoring points in each race. « You have to keep scoring [points]. You know, it’s a championship where you have the chance to score in every race. And no matter how fast your car is, if you don’t score those points, then your tally won’t increase. »

For the young British, reliability is a great thing, but now we need more performance to be able to play for victory without needing to retire beforehand. So, kudos to all those in the factories for delivering a reliable car. But we cannot keep relying on the misfortune of others, and we must find more performance. That’s what everyone is doing their best to achieve.

After Ferrari’s various misfortunes in the recent races, Mercedes has closed the gap to 38 points behind the Maranello team.
