Sainz no longer believes in his chances of winning the championship
Trailing by more than sixty points behind Max Verstappen, Carlos Sainz no longer believes in his chances to fight for the championship. However, the Spanish driver hopes to regain his momentum in the second half of the season, a period during which he is usually very successful.

Carlos Sainz is experiencing a difficult start to the season. The Spaniard is struggling much more than last year behind the wheel of his Ferrari, and he is only in fifth place in the championship. Already involved in several crashes and dealing with mechanical issues, he has already accumulated three retirements.
Especially in terms of accounting, the former McLaren driver now has a 33-point deficit compared to his teammate Charles Leclerc, whom he has never beaten in qualifying or in a race when both have completed the Grand Prix. When asked by Marca about his chances of winning the title, Carlos Sainz shows a clear understanding.
(I) [I don’t really believe] it, in that sense my approach has changed a bit, because it’s true that with my zero points I am far behind in the world championship. It hurts and from this moment on, I prefer not to think about the championship anymore. (S) the driver explains to number 55.
« It’s also because I noticed that I wasn’t comfortable enough in the car to achieve pole positions and victories. Maybe the desire to win and get pole positions also meant that I made a few too many mistakes. My strength has always been my consistency and knowing when to wait for my moments. My end of the year has always been very good, so I think this year I have to be a little more patient and wait until I feel a little more comfortable. » he continues.
Carlos Sainz still has the trust of Ferrari, who recently extended his contract for two more years, until 2024.
