Sergio Pérez can’t imagine himself in any other category than Formula 1
Asked about his life after Formula 1, Sergio Pérez declared that he did not envision himself trying another category once he leaved the pinnacle category.
Since 2011, the Formula 1 grid has had a certain Sergio Pérez in its ranks. Starting with Sauber before facing failure at McLaren, and then spending several years at Force India and Racing Point before moving up to a new level with Red Bull for the past two seasons, the Mexican driver will leave a significant mark on the last decade of the premier category.
But at 32 years old, Pérez is living his last seasons in Formula 1. Having extended his contract with Red Bull until 2024, he still has at least two years left to drive the fastest cars in the world. But what will happen to him after the end of his contract? Once Formula 1 is behind him, Sergio Pérez has stated that he does not see himself trying another category. When offered IndyCar, the WEC, or even Formula E, here is his response: “I have no interest, to be honest.”
The Mexican indicates that he wants to prioritize his family life first after his long stint in F1. « Endurance racing, I don’t know if I would do that one day. I don’t think so. I think that once F1 is finished, I have to go back and take care of my children. I already have three. I will be quite busy. »
As the only Mexican driver on the grid, Pérez also acknowledges a certain pride in making it this far. (e) I am the only Mexican, or even from Latin America, on the grid. So this just shows how difficult it is for us. I’m not saying that it’s easy for European drivers to make a name for themselves in the sport and have a brilliant career in this sport. It’s quite challenging, but I must say that I am extremely proud of it.
While waiting for retirement, Sergio Pérez will most likely live through two (almost three) of his best years in F1 if Red Bull continues to be as competitive.
