Before Baku, how many points are left on the F1 drivers’ licenses?
At the dawn of the eighth round of the 2022 Formula 1 World Championship, let's take stock of each driver's penalty points.

Each penalty imposed on a driver can result in penalty points on their license. After accumulating 12 points within a rolling 12-month period, the driver is excluded from the next race. The points are automatically erased exactly one year after they were assigned.
5/12 – Max Verstappen / Yuki Tsunoda / Lance Stroll
Max Verstappen made a few mistakes last year in his battle against Lewis Hamilton, including 2 for the accident in Monza, and 2 for the brake-test in Jeddah. The other 3 points came from a spin-out in Jeddah and failure to slow down under double yellow flags in Qatar. His next points will expire on September 12, 2022.
Yuki Tsunoda was found responsible for two collisions, each worth two penalty points: one in Brazil and one in Jeddah. The additional 3 points were given for crossing the track lines twice in succession in Australia, and one for impeding another driver during qualifying. He will lose another point soon, on June 26, 2022.
Lance Stroll has accumulated 3 accidents worth two penalty points on his license: Hungary at the start, Russia, and Australia in qualifying against Latifi. His latest point was also given to him in Australia, following a second change of direction during braking.
7/12 – Sergio Perez / Fernando Alonso / Valtteri Bottas
In English, it would be: 7 out of 12 – Sergio Perez / Fernando Alonso / Valtteri Bottas.
The Mexican inherited 4 penalty points at the 2021 Austrian Grand Prix after forcing Leclerc off the track on two consecutive occasions. His other point was given at Monza for cutting the track. He will have his points relieved next month, on July 4, 2022.
Fernando Alonso was also involved in two collisions, worth two penalty points each. The first one happened in Turkey with Schumacher, and the second one took place in Miami. The most recent penalty point on his license also comes from Miami, after he went off track and gained an advantage. His next penalty point will expire on October 10, 2022.
Valtteri Bottas was given two penalty points on his license following his spin in the pit lane in Styria last year. He was deemed responsible for the major collision in the Hungarian Grand Prix and has accumulated all of this with an additional point in Qatar for ignoring yellow flags. He will regain one point on June 27th.

Pierre Gasly also scored points following two accidents: one in Turkey, the second in Barcelona. 2 points for each, with the ones from Turkey expiring at the same time as Ocon’s.
Since his return this year, the Thai driver has already gained 5 points, including 2 following a collision in Jeddah. The other 2 points are due to track limit infractions in Barcelona and Monaco. He will have to wait until 2023 to be able to recover points.
Despite its bad reputation, the Canadian is not doing too bad, with only 4 penalty points to its name. 3 points were awarded to him at the Austrian Grand Prix in 2022, after failing to comply with the double yellow flags at Turn 5 during the race. His 4th point was given to him at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, following the incident with Pierre Gasly, where Latifi ignored the blue flags for several corners before letting the Frenchman pass.
10/12 – Lewis Hamilton / Daniel Ricciardo / Lando Norris / Kevin Magnussen
Lewis Hamilton lost his two points due to his collision with Max Verstappen during the 2021 British Grand Prix, a fateful moment in the title race. He will regain his points on July 18, 2022.
Daniel Ricciardo blocked an opponent in qualifying in Jeddah, resulting in a penalty point. He also cut the track and gained an advantage in Miami, earning an additional point on his license. His point will expire on March 25th, 2023.
Lando Norris goes from 5 to just 2 points, his remaining two points will be taken away from him on July 4th, he received them for pushing Sergio Perez off the track in Austria.
Kevin Magnussen scores two points for his return to F1 after causing a collision at the Miami Grand Prix. He will have to wait until May 8th to start from scratch, if no further penalties occur.
11/12 – George Russell / Guanyu Zhou / Sebastian Vettel
George Russell was guilty of a collision with Sainz during the Silverstone Sprint last year, and he will only receive one penalty point which will expire on July 17th.
Guanyu Zhou has as many penalty points as championship points. He owes it to an overtaking maneuver outside the track limits in Saudi Arabia, a point that he will regain on March 26th.
Sebastian Vettel interfered with his former rival during qualifying in Austria, he is awarded a point that will be taken away from him on July 3, 2022.
