Vettel, not a fan of Las Vegas, proposes a new circuit for the calendar

Sebastian Vettel is not a big fan of the city of Las Vegas, which will host a Grand Prix for the first time next year. The German suggests a circuit that he dreams of replacing the one in the gambling capital: the Bathurst track in Australia.

Sebastian Vettel is not one to mince his words. Despite the immense publicity surrounding the Formula 1 Grand Prix in Las Vegas next year, the German does not hide the fact that he is not a big fan of the city being chosen to host the race.

« I have already been there and I didn’t really like it, explains the Aston Martin driver. « I find that there are too many people and that they behave badly. I have nothing against bad behavior, as long as you don’t overdo it. Las Vegas seems to be a favorite place for people who go too far, when it’s no longer fun. »

A not-so-surprising statement, considering how calm Sebastian Vettel appears to have a personality that doesn’t quite match the frenzy of Las Vegas. However, the German suggests an alternative circuit that he would love to discover, the Bathurst circuit in Australia.

I would prefer to go to Bathurst. You could use the money invested for Las Vegas for other great circuits that already exist. It would be a real challenge, especially because I think this track is monstrous. I’ve never been there, but one day I hope to try it. » explains the German.

The Mount Panorama Circuit in Bathurst features a sequence of 23 turns spread over a little over 6 kilometers. The track is known for hosting endurance races such as the Bathurst 1000, which was last won in 2019 by the Frenchman Alexandre Prémat. The circuit also serves as the host for the Bathurst 12 Hour, of which the reigning champion is Jules Gounon, also from France.

But an entry on the Formula 1 calendar seems purely utopian. Decision-makers seem more inclined to turn towards the American and Asian markets. In addition, the Bathurst circuit is only grade 3 approved by the FIA, while only grade 1 circuits are authorized to host Formula 1 Grand Prix races. If Sebastian Vettel wants to discover Bathurst, he will certainly have to turn to Endurance racing after his Formula 1 career.
