Guanyu Zhou is not yet focusing on 2023

New recruit for Alfa Romeo and rookie in Formula 1, the first Chinese driver in the history of the sport has made a decent start to the season, but his focus remains on 2022.

After scoring points in the first race of his career, Chinese driver Guanyu Zhou then had two Grand Prix races just outside the points, before a “very frustrating retirement in Miami”, followed by a consecutive retirement in Barcelona. The Chinese driver finished far from the points in the other two Grand Prix races (P15 in Emilia-Romagna and P16 in Monaco, editor’s note). He comments on his start: “We are still only at the beginning of the season, so I don’t have any plans for the future yet, but for now, I am enjoying my time in Formula 1.”

In general, I feel good and it’s very pleasant to be here. I just have the feeling that I still have a lot of races to develop my skills in Formula 1, so I’m not too worried about the future. I think for now I will just try to focus on improving myself and making sure to finish in the points for the team.

« Then, if everything goes according to plan, I see no reason [not to be there] in the future. I am confident enough that we can still get the job done this season and I’m not too worried about what will happen next year.

With only 1 point registered in the championship, Zhou remains in 18th place. The next Grand Prix in Azerbaijan should be a good opportunity to score points, considering the performance of his Alfa Romeo on this type of track.
