Verstappen does not care about the driver standings
Currently leading the world championship after a poor start, Max Verstappen claims not to be interested in the drivers' standings at this stage of the season.

Max Verstappen’s climb up the driver standings is a masterstroke. With a 34-point deficit behind Charles Leclerc after three races at the beginning of the season, the Dutchman is now leading with a 9-point advantage over him. But for him, there’s no need to dwell on the gaps at this stage of the season.
« I think it doesn’t really matter where you are in the championship compared to second place,” Verstappen said. « It’s more about the performance you have in the car. If your car is good and you know you can win races, there isn’t as much pressure.
I think that we have been in this sport for a while now and we know what we can do. At least, from my experience, it doesn’t really make a difference. I just want to have a good car because it gives you the necessary confidence to do well.
Verstappen won the Formula 1 World Championship title in 2021, finishing eight points ahead of Hamilton after a season where the championship leader only alternated. It is too early to predict what will happen next, but as we saw at the beginning of the season, even a significant gap can quickly narrow.
