After a victory at the Indy Grand Prix on the road circuit in mid-May, Colton Herta continues to impress the IndyCar paddocks with his talent and speed. So much so that he had the opportunity to experience the Miami Grand Prix firsthand in the McLaren F1 team garage. Currently with Andretti in the United States, the young Californian is expected to soon get behind the wheel of a Formula 1 car.

With the rumors of Daniel Ricciardo’s departure from McLaren, a spot could become available for 2023, and Herta nurtures the dream of entering Formula 1, as he currently represents the best American hope. « Formula 1 is a serious ambition for me. I will be going to Woking (McLaren F1 headquarters, editor’s note) in two weeks to have a seat fitted and train on the simulator before hitting the track when the schedule allows. »

As stated in the FIA sporting regulations, teams are obliged to have a rookie drive in at least two free practice sessions on Fridays during the season. It is important to note that the term “rookie” is not synonymous with a young driver, but simply refers to a driver who has never competed in a Formula 1 World Championship race. Nevertheless, Colton Herta fulfills all the requirements to soon take the wheel of an F1 car.
