Albon: “A weekend to forget” after difficulties in Monaco

After scoring points for Williams at the beginning of the season, Alex Albon was unable to repeat the feat in Monaco.

With an underperforming Williams, the weekend didn’t look any different for Albon. Despite scoring points on two occasions this season (Australia and Miami), the Thai driver didn’t have the same luck this weekend. Qualifying in 16th place, just outside the top 12, after a disrupted qualifying session, a rainy start and two red flags prevented Albon from delivering a strong performance. He was forced to retire due to a mechanical issue on lap 48.

Reflecting on his performance, he explained: “It was a complicated day mixed with a messy performance on my part as well. The conditions made it very difficult to bring the brakes up to temperature in the right window, especially with all the variations that a drying track and red flags bring. The car seemed competitive when we had fresh air and I felt competitive for points, so there are positives to take away from today. Unfortunately, towards the end of the race, I had a problem with the car that forced me to retire. I think it’s probably a weekend to forget for us, but that’s how it goes sometimes.”

It seems hard to believe that the situation will improve overnight for Williams. With an upcoming Grand Prix on a very unique circuit in the streets of Baku, Azerbaijan, we hope for a new breakthrough from the British team, who has been struggling for years.
