Wolff would like to see the Monaco circuit revamped
After the Monaco Grand Prix, Toto Wolff stated that he would like to keep the Rock on the calendar, while proposing that the track be revised to offer more entertainment.

This weekend in Monaco, the rain came to spice up the race. In a race comparable in terms of conditions to the 2016 edition – a wet then drying track – Sergio Perez managed to clinch his first victory in the Principality. A surprisingly eventful Monaco Grand Prix, considering that action during the race is far from its main characteristic.
The fault lies with two factors, the width of the cars and the narrowness of the track between the rails. Since its creation, although there have been some notable modifications to the layout, especially in the last sequences, Monaco has otherwise remained fairly similar over the decades. Due to the lack of spectacle, a modification of the track is often mentioned. While this is actually quite complicated given the layout of the city, certain areas seem more suitable than others for change, such as the Portier turn just before the tunnel, which often comes up in the debate.
On his part, Toto Wolff believes that what Lewis Hamilton had to endure, being stuck behind a very slow Fernando Alonso for many laps, is not normal. « What needs to be seen is Monaco. If a car can really slow down by almost five seconds and hold up everyone, it’s just a disgrace to the race here. »
The principal team of Mercedes is therefore considering the idea of modifying the track. Perhaps we can examine the configuration of the circuit and the things we can do to avoid having a procession, not just a strategy game or a qualifying race. It’s a fantastic place and show, but it would be great if the race could be at the same level.
Before studying a potential change in route at certain locations, we must first ensure that Monaco remains on the calendar after 2022. And despite some quite encouraging rumors, nothing is certain yet.
