Sebastian Vettel defends Mick Schumacher: “Leave him alone”
After a second accident reducing his car to pieces, Mick Schumacher is not in an easy situation, considering that he has still not scored any points since his arrival in Formula 1.

Mick Schumacher’s season start is in line with last year, despite a promising 11th place finish at the Bahrain Grand Prix, leaving him just one spot away from scoring his first Formula 1 point. The rest of the races haven’t allowed the German driver to showcase his talent, notably with a major crash during qualifying in Jeddah.
After a difficult weekend in Monaco for the Haas driver, which ended with an impressive crash that had no physical consequences for the driver but split his race car in two, the bill is still hefty. The pressure from his boss is growing and the external criticism of his driving skills is becoming more frequent. His friend and compatriot Sebastian Vettel wished to defend Mick against the criticism.
« It’s so easy and quick to make a mistake, I don’t exactly know what happened to him [in this accident]. I didn’t see it, but the most important thing is that he is unharmed. I have no doubt that he can do better than what he is currently showing, but I think you should leave him alone for a while.

Mick himself spoke about his accident: “Obviously, it’s very frustrating. I think in terms of pace, we were there. It’s just a matter of keeping the car on track, and unfortunately I wasn’t able to do that. The pace seemed good, and I felt like I could push. We ended up going a bit too wide, even though it was only a 10-centimeter margin in the end, and it was enough to lose all the grip we had. And unfortunately, the result is what it is.”
With the next Grand Prix in the streets of Baku in two weeks, the Ferrari engine in his VF-22 should allow the 23-year-old driver to score points. Otherwise, the pressure will only increase.
