Alonso: Hamilton’s frustration, “it’s not my problem”
With a rather slow pace after the red flag, Fernando Alonso successfully held Lewis Hamilton behind him. The Briton seemed frustrated with the speed of the Spaniard, who responded by saying that it simply wasn't his problem.

Having finished in seventh position in Monaco, Fernando Alonso scored points for the third time this season, after Bahrain and Barcelona. The Spanish driver now has 10 points in the drivers’ championship.
To secure this result, Alonso had to notably resist Lewis Hamilton, who remained pressing behind the Alpine for a long time. For many laps, the Asturias Bull was almost at a standstill, at least at a very slow pace. Hamilton then showed his frustration at being stuck behind Alonso, as it is extremely difficult to overtake on the streets of the principality.
Asked about the frustration of the seven-time world champion, Alonso doesn’t mince his words. “That’s not my problem,” replies the Spaniard, before adding that it was extremely easy to hold the Mercedes behind him.
Alonso then explained his lack of pace during a part of the race starting from the restart after the red flag caused by Schumacher’s accident. « I think we didn’t have the right tires or tire lifespan to finish the race with 33 laps remaining. It was a sprint race, and we had two choices: either put back the hard tires we had at the beginning of the race, or put on the medium tires. We chose the mediums, but our tire lifespan estimate was shorter than 33 laps. »
So we didn’t know if we were going to be able to finish the race, so I really managed my tires for 15 laps, and then I pushed for the last 15 when they told me Esteban had a penalty.
Despite a start of the season that was far from bad, Fernando Alonso was unable to fully capitalize and score points. Let’s see if this Monaco Grand Prix can kickstart a good streak for the Spanish driver.
