16th and 18th at the arrival of the Spanish Grand Prix, the Williams shone with their lack of pace. Considered as the worst team on the grid, Barcelona did not show any improvements and the FW44 still seems very far from being able to compete for points on a regular basis.

If Alex Albon has managed to score a few points on two occasions, it is more thanks to exceptional performances from the Thai driver than to the car itself. On the other hand, Nicholas Latifi has been racing like a ghost, only noticed in the early part of the season due to certain mistakes and incidents during the first Grand Prix races.

The Canadian estimated that he had experienced his worst Friday in three years in Barcelona due to the performances of the FW44 during the practice sessions. This track depends so much on maximum downforce, so even though the balance is not perfect, this layout has revealed that we are lacking in that aspect, adds Latifi.

The Catalan layout revealed to everyone the difficulties of the Williams. « This layout is a reference track for everyone. […] We are still one of the fastest on the straights by far, and we are very, very slow in the corners, especially in the fast corners, compared to everyone else. This makes tire management so much more difficult. You constantly slide. So it definitely gives, I think, some good information for the guys back at the factory », explains the Canadian.

The race of Alex Albon was also made difficult by a strong degradation of his tires, which made him finish the Grand Prix behind his teammate.
