Perez confirms discussions with Red Bull for his F1 extension
Mexican driver Sergio Perez has confirmed that the extension of his contract with Red Bull is currently being discussed between him and his team.

Sergio Perez seems to be on track to extend his contract for a third season with Red Bull. After seven years with Force India / Racing Point, the Guadalajara native joined the Austrian team in 2021 and appears to be satisfying Christian Horner’s expectations. Last year, Perez stood out not only for his victory in Baku, but also for his team spirit and assistance to his teammate in his pursuit of the world championship title. His heroic defense against Lewis Hamilton in Abu Dhabi is particularly memorable.
Currently third in the championship, Checo is fighting more with Carlos Sainz for the final step of the podium than with Verstappen and Leclerc for the win. Having finished second twice and fourth twice in five races since the start of the year, Perez is perfectly fulfilling the role that Red Bull has entrusted to him, always being well positioned and filling in for any potential failures from his teammate.
As part of the Miami Grand Prix, the Mexican driver stated to the press in his country that discussions are indeed underway for his extension with the Austrian team. Neither he nor his employer, however, are in a hurry to negotiate. Red Bull usually announces its drivers for the following year after the summer break. This was also the case for Perez’s first extension last year. This prospect will probably not please AlphaTauri driver Pierre Gasly, who has been eyeing a seat in Milton Keynes for quite some time.
