A “very frustrating” abandonment for Guanyu Zhou

After his abandonment in the very beginning of the race, Guanyu Zhou expressed his frustration and believes that there was something to be done during this first race in Miami.

After a very well-managed first Grand Prix, with his first point in his very first race, Guanyu Zhou is among the pleasant surprises of this early season. While not being flamboyant, the Chinese driver still shows promising performance, despite not being necessarily seen as capable by many. This is surely a consequence of his numerous seasons in Formula 2 without ever being brilliant.

After two consecutive 11th places in Saudi Arabia and Australia, Imola was more difficult with a 15th position on the checkered flag. In Miami, the new Alfa Romeo driver undoubtedly wanted to do better, but he didn’t get the opportunity. Starting 17th after being hindered during qualifying, his Sunday doesn’t go any better. It’s due to a problem with his car that forces him to retire on the 7th lap of the race.

It’s very frustrating because I feel like it would have been fairly easy to finish in the points. We were very strong today in terms of pace at the beginning. It was better than all the other drivers around us. If there hadn’t been this issue, it would have been fairly easy to move up, I think, just behind Lewis because I was clearly faster than the drivers in front of me and I felt like they were using their tires more than I was.

Guanyu Zhou still tries to put this problem into perspective on his C42. But I think it’s not so bad to have this bad luck at the beginning of the season. It’s just a matter of changing things around mid-season and at the end of the season when it matters most.
