Mercedes left Imola ten days ago with mixed feelings. On one hand, George Russell delivered a very impressive performance, finishing fourth. On the other hand, Lewis Hamilton’s thirteenth place showed that there is still a lot of work to be done for the W13 to compete at the front.

In a press release from Mercedes, Toto Wolff first commented on the performance of his team in Italy: George did a very good job finishing P4 from a bad starting position, but for Lewis, we didn’t give him the tools to show his true pace.

Despite contrasting performances, the boss of the German team then stated that Mercedes had learned a lot from the weekend in Emilia-Romagna: “We have identified several ways to improve the car.” He also mentioned that the simulations conducted in the wind tunnel will be verified on the track during the Miami Grand Prix.

Finally, the Austrian revealed that his two drivers had gone to the simulator since Imola to work on the planned updates for the upcoming races. The team has demonstrated its resilience multiple times in recent years. The challenging start of the season has lit a fire within each member of the team. They are determined to fix it.
