Overtaking Charles Leclerc at the start, Sergio Perez then had a solid race. The Mexican didn’t crack under the pressure from the Monegasque and managed to maintain his 2nd position without encountering too much resistance. The only blemish on the record was a minor excursion onto the grass at the 14th turn midway through the race. Fortunately for the Red Bull driver, it was more fright than harm.

It was a good battle. It lasted almost the whole race. I managed to always stay in control, but then they put a bit of pressure on us with their second pit stop.

It was necessary to manage the tires well and not make any mistakes. Because making a mistake under these conditions happens very easily. It has been a complicated start to the season for us, so leaving from here with such a result makes me very happy.

Accompanied by Max Verstappen’s victory, Sergio Perez offers Red Bull their first one-two finish since the Malaysian Grand Prix in 2016 (with Daniel Ricciardo in first and Max Verstappen in second). This second place also allows Perez to climb to third place in the driver’s championship, only 5 points behind his teammate.
