This new installment of Formula 1 games could very well be synonymous with renewal for this game saga that has been going on since 2009. In addition to the new technical regulations that will disrupt the way a race car is driven, F1 22 is also the first game since Codemasters was acquired by Electronic Arts. So, will these new factors modify Codemasters’ formula?

The “My team” mode, where the player creates a team, manages it, and drivers for it, will always be part of the game. It is also announced that this mode will be expanded with new features.

The major novelty of this F1 22 seems to be the “Life in F1” mode, which promises the player to discover the world of Formula 1 not only on the track but also in the paddock. This translates notably into the ability to purchase clothes, accessories, and even supercars.
A very enigmatic game mode for now. Will these elements just be collectibles or will they actually affect the gameplay? We will have to wait for the next game images to get a clearer idea about this “Life in F1” mode.
In terms of gameplay, this new installment also seems to want to bring its share of innovations. Indeed, pit stops, interventions from the safety car, etc… will very likely be disrupted. It remains to be seen whether this will be through the addition of interactive features for the player or the addition of cinematics.
Also, for the first time, players will be able to fully immerse themselves in the driving experience of a Formula 1 car thanks to compatibility with VR (virtual reality). The announced compatible headsets are the Oculus Rift and the HTC Vive.
Missing in action
However, the “Breaking Point” mode, introduced with F1 2021, will not be in the next installment. This game mode allowed us to follow the story of fictional characters in F1, each with unique paths.
As a reminder, F1 22 will be released on July 1st on PS5, Xbox Series, Xbox One, and PC. It is also possible to have access to it as early as June 28th by pre-ordering the F1 22 Champions Edition, which notably offers new iconic drivers for the “My Team” mode, Miami GP-themed items, and 18,000 bonus credits.
