Soon a new era for Formula 2?
The Formula 2 cars (and also the Formula 3 cars) have been equipped with Dallara chassis since 2018 and 2019. Frenchman Bruno Michel, CEO of Formula 2 and Formula 3, has unveiled plans for the future.
Bruno Michel, CEO of Formula 2 and Formula 3, has presented some projects concerning the future of both promotional formulas.
The context:
The single-seaters are Dallara 2018 chassis for Formula 2 and 2019 chassis for Formula 3.
The F2 cars are equipped with a 620hp Méchachrome V6 engine. Normally, the chassis have a lifespan of 3 years. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the lifespan has been extended for an additional 3 years, until the end of 2023.
Projects:
Bruno Michel was interviewed during a media meeting about the future of promotional formulas.
« We have several ongoing projects, it will mainly depend on the economic situation. »
The goal is clearly to keep up with the pace of Formula 1, which evolves every year, without scaring away the current teams with excessive costs.
By the end of 2023, the Formula 2 will be 6 years old. According to Bruno Michel, it would be time to move on to a new era for the promotion formulas.
We need to find a balance between costs and evolving technology.
To prepare the teams for 2024, Formula 2 is already working on it.
