“Running was the best option according to Bottas”
The day after the attack on an oil site located a few kilometers from the Jeddah circuit, Valtteri Bottas revealed a bit more following the drivers' meeting that took place on Friday evening.

The weekend of the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix takes place in a tense atmosphere. While an attack on an oil site took place during Friday’s first practice session, the drivers met for nearly four and a half hours to decide on the course of action for the Saudi weekend.
During this meeting, all the drivers were able to express their opinions. And following the feedback from team managers, local authorities, and Formula 1 officials, it was decided to continue the event until its conclusion.
The Alfa Romeo driver Valtteri Bottas has explained the reasons behind the F1’s decision: If we had decided not to continue, the teams would still have had to stay a few more days to pack everything up. And it’s not like you can suddenly create new flights to go back home. We’re already here, so the best option was to race.
When asked whether or not he wanted F1 to return to Jeddah, Bottas preferred to dodge the question while praising the unity of the GPDA (Grand Prix Drivers Association): “We, the drivers, are truly united at the moment despite the decision to continue, which didn’t please everyone.”
Furthermore, the Finn indicated that the different stakeholders will discuss the situation in the coming weeks. The issue of the circuit’s danger, as highlighted once again by Mick Schumacher’s accident in qualifying, will also be addressed.
