Sainz on Leclerc: “He is one of the greatest, if not the greatest in Formula 1 today”
Carlos Sainz is having a very good first year with Ferrari. After strong performances at McLaren last year, the Spanish driver continues in the same vein. This time, he is accompanied by Charles Leclerc, whom he does not hesitate to compliment.

After seven years in F1, Carlos Sainz joined Ferrari after a complicated season for the Scuderia in 2020. But this year, the car is better and more consistent as Ferrari has concentrated the vast majority of its resources on the one for 2022. Finally, Sainz and Leclerc form a good pair of drivers, allowing Ferrari to be currently 3rd in the constructors’ championship.
Carlos Sainz is only 6.5 points behind his teammate, but he considers the latter to be one of the very best on the grid, especially in qualifying.
« I think Charles is the best driver in qualifying. He is one of the greatest, if not the greatest in Formula 1 today. There is probably no one more talented than him on a dry lap, says Carlos Sainz to Formula Passion.
The Monegasque has indeed performed well in qualifying so far, beating Sainz 13 times compared to 7 for the Spaniard in qualifying. Leclerc notably secured two pole positions this year in Monaco and Azerbaijan. According to him, his teammate’s speed is not the only thing to take into account.
« I am not only talking about his speed, but also about the fact that he has a very good work ethic. He works well with the team and, to be honest, he has many strengths that make him such a strong driver. It is a challenge that I appreciate, explains Sainz.
With two races left in the season, Ferrari has almost secured 3rd place in the Constructors’ Championship. The Scuderia now has its sights set on the 2022 season with a lot of cards to play to get back in the title race.
