Binotto affirms that the 2021 car has never been really developed
Ferrari team director Mattia Binotto asserts that Ferrari has put all its efforts into the 2022 car since the beginning of the season. Thus, the team's only desire is to focus on the 2022 season and to be done with 2021.
The Ferrari team seems to have secured third place in the constructors’ championship following the triple header. Despite a fierce battle with McLaren throughout the season, the Italian team explains that it never really sought to develop its car this year.
We have never really developed the current car. We introduced a few developments at the very beginning of the season and that’s it. Except for the power unit later on, but again, it was a development for 2022, so all our efforts since the very beginning of the season have always been for the 2022 car, we have never compromised it, said Mattia Binotto.
For the Italian, this third place is only the result of the team’s overall efforts. And not the result of relentless development of the car.
« I think that if today we reach the third place, it is because the team, the way they work on different weekends has certainly improved a lot since the beginning of the season and not because the car itself has developed.
The team has made a lot of progress in terms of strategy, management, communication with the drivers, understanding of what we are doing, adds Binotto.
Despite Ferrari’s focus on the 2022 car, Mattia Binotto is happy with his team’s results: So overall, I think the team has made great progress with what was possible to do, and for that I am so happy, because yes, third place is a great result of the efforts made.
But the Italian is still eager to move on to the next with the arrival of the 2022 season and the new regulations.
« I say it sincerely: we can’t take it anymore. We can’t wait for this season to end. »
