Räikkönen hopes to see Giovinazzi again in F1
Kimi Räikkönen, who will retire at the end of the season, commented on the departure of his teammate. The Finn explains that Giovinazzi deserves to be given a new chance in F1 in the coming years.
Alfa Romeo confirmed its second driver earlier in the week by announcing Guanyu Zhou as Valtteri Bottas’s teammate. This decision therefore displaces Antonio Giovinazzi from the Italian team. His current teammate, Kimi Räikkönen, explained his opinion regarding Giovinazzi and his future career.
« He’s a very nice guy, we’ve known each other for a long time, since the Ferrari days. I hope that one day he will have another chance in Formula 1. There aren’t many cars available and of course, there are more people trying to get into F1, but let’s hope for it,” confides Räikkönen.
The Italian driver, for his part, returned to his departure a few days after the announcement, explaining that it had “not been an easy day for me,” even though he claimed to leave Alfa Romeo “satisfied with myself.”
During these past three years, I have improved all the time. Of course, some things could be better, some things are already good, but I am happy with myself, I couldn’t have done more, explains Giovinazzi.
Every time I was asked about my future, I always say that it was not in my hands and that it was like that. So in the end, it’s the decision, and now I’m focused on the next step, which will be Formula E next year and I’m really excited about it.
As a reminder, the Italian driver will be in the Dragon/Penske team in Formula E next year.
