The improvements to the Abu Dhabi circuit were announced at the beginning of the summer and are finishing today, one month before the Grand Prix. The circuit is now slightly shorter at a distance of 5.28 km, changes have taken place in three areas of the circuit: the North hairpin, the southern part of the circuit, and around the hotel.

The biggest change is undoubtedly the renamed Marsa turn which is located at the end of the second straight. The sequence of 90-degree turns that took place at this location has been replaced by a single banked turn. The chicane in the first sector just before the first long straight has been removed and the following corner has been enlarged by 20 meters.

Saif Al Noaimi, the Deputy Director of Abu Dhabi Motorsports Management, discusses how these improvements mark a turning point for the Yas Marina circuit.

» This is an incredible moment in the history of the Yas Marina circuit. The changes will enhance the competitive nature of all motor sports events organized on site, […] we are of course particularly excited to see how the action unfolds on the new track of the circuit during the season finale (of F1) next month, he said.

These modifications should therefore bring more overtaking opportunities and an even more exciting spectacle for the audience.
