Sergio Perez elected driver of the day in his country
Sergio Perez was awarded the title of "driver of the day" during his national Grand Prix.
The Mexican wanted to shine at home. Starting from 4th position, Sergio Perez took advantage of the accident between Daniel Ricciardo and the pole-sitter of the day, Valtteri Bottas, to take 3rd place.
After a difficult start to the race, the end of the race was in his favor, thanks to a good strategy from his team. The Red Bull driver quickly caught up to Lewis Hamilton and threatened him for the 2nd position for a long time. Unfortunately for the local racer, he was unable to overtake the Briton.
Even if it is not the long-awaited position for the Mexican, he enters the history books by becoming the first Mexican to lead a Mexican GP and to step onto the podium of his national race.
