Smaller cars for 2026

In 2026, F1 is changing its technical regulations and planning to reduce the dimensions of its cars. More compact cars, but not necessarily lighter as confirmed by Ross Brawn, F1's sporting director.

Over the years, Formula 1 cars have continued to increase in length, width, and weight. In 2004, the new regulations required a car to weigh a minimum of 600 kg, while for the upcoming season this weight increases to 792 kg with the integration of new Pirelli tires. In addition, the cars are now 2 meters wide and 5.5 meters long, making them larger.

Therefore, a redesign of the F1 cars’ technical regulations is coming for the 2026 season with the objective of making the cars smaller. Ross Brawn wants to ensure that the cars do not get any bigger, while also trying to make them more compact. These changes in 2026 are also accompanied by a new power unit, and a desire to improve the durability of F1, as confirmed by the F1’s technical director, Pat Symonds.

Not only engines, but also cars must become more sustainable. The only way to do this is to use the formula: smaller, lighter, and more efficient.

An initiative that aims to continue to move sport towards a more sustainable future for all.
