Italian Grand Prix – Esteban Ocon finishes in the points
After a difficult race, the Normand saves one point and allows the French team to place both of its cars in the points at Monza and to recover crucial points on AlphaTauri for the 5th place in the constructors' standings.
Esteban Ocon had some regrets at the end of this Grand Prix. First because after having had to let Nicholas Latifi pass again for cutting a corner, he remained stuck behind the Canadian for the entire first stint, unable to find an opening on the Williams.
Then because after finally passing the Canadian at the restart, he received a 5-second penalty for squeezing Sebastian Vettel under braking at the Roggia chicane (the two cars even touching wheels), a penalty he does not accept, as according to him, the track is narrowing and Charles Leclerc had only received a black and white flag for a similar move on Lewis Hamilton in 2019.
Finally, because for the Alpine driver, this 10th place does not represent the work that has been done, the A521 being outmatched both in terms of the chassis and the engine (which has not evolved during the winter, Renault preferring to focus on the 2022 engine that will be frozen after next winter) and Esteban Ocon considering that he could have aimed for a 7th, or even a 6th place without the penalty.
Normand, the driver who won the Hungarian Grand Prix this year, is in 11th place in the drivers’ standings with 45 points, 5 points behind his teammate Fernando Alonso.
