Verstappen wanted to win differently

During a special afternoon, Verstappen won the Belgian Grand Prix. But the Dutchman is not satisfied with winning in this way, although he is now three points behind Hamilton.

He certainly did not expect to win an F1 race this way. Max Verstappen won the Belgian Grand Prix after completing only four laps. Due to unsuitable weather conditions, the FIA decided, after several delays, to cancel the race.

In the end, it is indeed the qualification ranking that was taken into account to determine the drivers’ positions. Sergio Perez is the only exception due to his accident before the race. The Dutchman finished first, George Russell and Lewis Hamilton completed the podium.

If this victory allowed Verstappen to get closer to his rival, the Red Bull driver wanted to win differently. Of course, it’s a victory, but that’s not how you want to win. We of course had two races where we didn’t really score, so we needed this result.

During the formation laps to determine whether the track was drivable or not, Verstappen was heard on the radio calling the race director, Michael Masi, to start the race.

During the press conference after this particular day, the driver acknowledged that the cars behind him had no visibility. At 3:30 pm, I think the conditions were correct, but the visibility was very low. After that, it was still very humid and it kept raining. The conditions were very difficult there and even worse for the drivers behind me.

The Dutchman is already looking towards the future and the next Grand Prix in the Netherlands. Just three points behind Hamilton, Verstappen acknowledges that the road is still long to clinch the championship title. We have narrowed the gap a bit, but we will see again in Zandvoort how competitive we will be. We must continue to push, continue to try to reduce the gap and I am convinced that we have a good car. Hoping, however, that the weather will be more clement during the weekend!
