Günther Steiner (Haas) warns his drivers
Günther Steiner warns his rookies about accidents. The repair costs in the first half of the season are already very high.

The young Haas team duo will now have to be careful. Günther Steiner is not satisfied with this first half of the season. The reason is that the two new recruits keep having accidents, sometimes heavy and therefore costly. They have at least seven between them. Steiner warned them to be careful and to act at the right time.
« It’s a lot of money without a valid reason. So we need to improve ourselves. The budget is the budget, you have to stick to it. For now, we can still manage it, but we will soon be in a position where we will have to find new ways to overcome this, as they (the accidents, editor’s note) are becoming a bit too frequent and too heavy. »
These accidents have become somewhat routine for Haas. Recently, Mick Schumacher had an accident during the Hungary Grand Prix trials, preventing him from participating in the qualifications. Earlier in the season, he made the same mistake in Monaco, not to mention in France and during the Emilia-Romagna GP in Imola. His teammate is in the same situation with accidents in Bahrain, Baku, and also Imola. The repair budget then becomes significant. And when you know the team’s problems with improving, the team principal really doesn’t need to add additional bills.
« You always anticipate accidents, especially with beginner pilots, but we have reached a point where we need to work on how to have fewer accidents for the rest of the season. Mick Schumacher has had quite a few in the last five races. It happens, but these accidents are quite heavy. »
The team manager, however, does not want to curb the racing instinct of his two drivers. He prefers that they choose the right moment to take risks.
« What needs to be explained to young people is that they need to make a judgment: is it worth it or not? A risk that is worth taking is if you have the opportunity to earn a place in the constructor’s championship. »
Currently at the bottom of the rankings with zero points, Haas is struggling and does not see how to improve for the second half of the season. Alfa Romeo and Williams both scored a few points in Hungary. Hope lies for the year 2022.
« Obviously, we have to run. I’m not telling them not to run, but to minimize the risk of causing damage. The risk will be worth it, but we haven’t had the opportunity yet to improve our ranking in the World Championship. »
