Williams: “Latifi deserves his place!”

Jost Capito, boss of Williams, is still delighted with the 7th and 8th places obtained in Hungary last week. Nicholas Latifi seems to have definitively convinced the team leaders in Grove following his good performance in Budapest.

Since his arrival at Williams in 2019, George Russell has consistently outperformed his teammates, whether it be Robert Kubica or Nicholas Latifi, who have always been beaten in qualifying by their garage neighbor.

However, the Canadian driver had a superb race in Budapest, taking advantage first of the start crash, then settling on the provisional podium during the first part of the race.

With Williams lacking pace, he was unable to maintain this position throughout the race. But he managed to hold on to a good 8th place, which was turned into P7 following Vettel’s disqualification.

Jost Capito was not indifferent to it and acknowledges all the credit of number 6:

These are Nicky’s first points in F1, and it was about time! I’m sure it will be a real boost for him and that it will give him personal confidence. Qualifying behind George and finishing ahead of him is a great source of motivation!

« I was especially impressed by the way he managed to score those points, despite the pressure of being in the top 10 for the first time. At one point, he was on the podium! He was able to keep a cool head, which is why he deserves his place in Formula 1.

Nicholas Latifi has 6 points and is currently in 15th place in the drivers’ standings. He leads George Russell, who has 4 points. Williams, on the other hand, goes on vacation in 8th place among the constructors.
