Ferrari couldn’t have done worse than the previous season. By choosing Carlos Sainz to replace Sebastian Vettel, Mattia Binotto may have made the right choice. The results of the first part of the season perfectly demonstrate this. After eleven races, Ferrari already has thirty-two points more than at the end of the 2020 season. The Italian team is tied with McLaren in the constructors’ standings (136 points). This promises a good battle after the summer break.

The team manager is proud of his drivers and even believes he has the best pair in the entire pit lane. He has been very complimentary towards Charles Leclerc despite the fact that his race in Hungary ended at the first corner.

We know that Leclerc is a fantastic driver, very talented, and that he continues to improve. He has great opportunities to win. The first one was in Monaco, but for reasons that we all know, this was not the case.

Binotto refers to the accident of the Monegasque driver which prevented him from starting on the grid in Monaco. Leclerc’s first part of the season is far from bad if we take into account the performances of his car. He secured two pole positions in Monaco and Azerbaijan before finishing second in Silverstone between the two Mercedes. His teammate, Carlos Sainz, is also doing wonders with his car. Regularly in the top 10 at the end of races, he achieved a nice third place in Hungary after Vettel’s disqualification.

« I think Carlos Sainz is integrating well. He is improving race after race. He is in a way a reference for Charles as well, pushing him when conditions are tougher. More than 80 points each, it shows how important it is to have two good drivers for the constructors’ championship. »

To promise a bright future for this duo, if Ferrari doesn’t mess up the car development in 2022.
