Jost Capito: « For us, it’s like a victory »

For a few seasons now, Williams has been at the back of the grid. The British team had not scored a single point since the German Grand Prix in 2019. However, since the team was bought by Dorilton Capital, everything is going better for the Grove team. George Russell is working wonders in the car and has achieved two Q3 appearances in Austria and Silverstone.

This Sunday, Williams once again reached a milestone by scoring 10 points, thanks to Latifi’s 7th place and Russell’s 8th place. The team took advantage of the early race incident to position themselves well afterwards.

« This means a lot for the team to get the first points, especially after not scoring any points last year and being so close to getting one this year (11th in Austria). We got six points and in the end it’s finally 10 points (after Vettel’s disqualification) – and it’s a fantastic result that we were expecting. We always said that the points would come. And when they finally arrived, for us, it was like a victory. », said Williams CEO Jost Capito to F1.com.

The German believes that the race at the Hungaroring proves that Williams is capable of putting everything together to score points.

It’s a relief for the team to get the points after this long wait. A few months ago, if we got an 11th place, everyone would be excited. Now, we are disappointed. I saw a change in the team. People are no longer satisfied with a position outside the points. We won’t always get points, but we want points. Getting the points in Hungary is confirmation that we can do it. The number of points doesn’t matter. It’s about performance. And we performed well in the race in Hungary,” he added.

By scoring 10 points in the Hungarian Grand Prix, Williams moved ahead of Haas and Alfa Romeo in the constructor’s standings. If the team manages to maintain their position in the championship, it would be their best result since 2017 (5th place).
