F1 ranking: Hamilton goes on vacation as the leader

The Hungarian Grand Prix has completely shaken up the drivers' and constructors' standings.

With his second position, acquired thanks to Sebastian Vettel’s disqualification, Lewis Hamilton regains the lead of the world championship and benefits from Max Verstappen’s accident at the beginning of the race. The British driver now has a 10-point lead over the Red Bull driver.

Behind the two leaders, status quo for Lando Norris and Sergio Perez as all these drivers were forced to retire following the crash caused by Valtteri Bottas at the beginning of the race. Nevertheless, this incident, as well as Sebastian Vettel’s disqualification, benefited Carlos Sainz, allowing him to move ahead of Charles Leclerc (who also retired at the beginning of the race) in the standings.

Thanks to his victory, Esteban Ocon gains two positions and now has 39 points, moving ahead of his teammate, who helped him by defending his position against Lewis Hamilton as best as he could.

This is the surprise and great joy of the day. The Williams drivers have finally opened their accounts. With his eighth place, George Russell finally scores his first points with the British team. His teammate, meanwhile, scores 6 points thanks to his 7th position on the Hungaroring.

The constructor standings

Mercedes now has a 10-point lead over Red Bull and has capitalized on the Austrian team’s troubles caused by the incident at the start of the race.

Ferrari is getting closer and closer to McLaren and is now only 3 points behind the team founded by Bruce McLaren.

Alpine achieves the operation of the day, with the victory and 4th place of its drivers, the French team is now in 5th place and overtakes its rival from last year, Aston Martin.

Due to Vettel’s disqualification, Aston Martin sees AlphaTauri pulling away in the standings, thanks to Gasly and Tsunoda’s good results.

With the combined shooting of its pilots, Williams opens its score and now ranks 8th.
